Pull Out Test

February 10, 2022
BKSTEC focuses on manufacturing quality cables that can withstand pull-out damage and will have to pass an in-house designed pull-out test before mass production.

A common problem with cables is damaging the header when disconnecting from a device or accidentally tripping over the cable. BKSTEC cables have been tried and tested to withstand these types of accidents.  Each cable has passed our proprietary pull-out test before reaching customers.

The Pull-out Test Equipment and Test Criteria

Test Equipments: Force machine & signal generator

To account for all types of scenarios, BKSTEC sets its pull-out test conditions as per below:
Tx side: pull-out loading 12 kgf, 3 min.
Rx side: Side pull-out loading 6 kgf, 3 min.

The pass criteria:
HDMI
  1. Maximum pull-out length ≤ 3 mm
  2. 4K (HDMI 2.0) / 8K( HDMI 2.1) display works for 5 minutes with no errors.
USB
  1. Maximum pull-out length ≤ 3 mm
  2. BER*1 < 1e-12 (10^-12)
  3. Payload test speed ≥ R:700MB/s, W:600MB/s @ USB3.2
    Payload test speed ≥ R:40MB/s, W:30MB/s @ USB2.0
The Cable Pull-out & Side Pull-out Test

Our testing methods include two tests, a straight pulling test and a side pulling test. First the cable’s header is fixed at the top end of the test machine. A 196N weight is then attached to the other end of the cable for 3 minutes. Each test is performed 5 times. The cable is then inspected for physical damages and signal quality. If any samples fail the physical inspection or signal quality test, the product design and manufacturing process will be reviewed and necessary changes will be applied.
