BKSTEC Demonstrates USB4 Achieves 40Gbps Transfer Speeds with Protocol Tunneling

April 22, 2022
BKSTEC demonstrates USB4 40Gbps transfer speeds with protocol tunneling. The BKSTEC USB4 Gen 3x2 fiber optic type-C cable meets the nominal dual-lane data transfer speeds of up to 40 Gbps at up to 5 meters in length

USB4 is the next-generation connectivity by doubling the bandwidth of USB and enables the simultaneous transfer of data by multiple devices. The USB4 specification provides easy allocation of data, including protocol tunneling to send packets of data at the same time by allocating bandwidth accordingly.

The USB4 is compatible with USB 3.2, USB 2.0, and Thunderbolt 3 devices.  BKSTEC’s USB4 Gen 3x2fiber optic optimizes Type-C connectivity by providing nominal dual-lane data transfer speeds of up to 40 Gbps at up to 5 meters in length.

How We Tested

The test is divided into two parts to show the overall speed of 40Gbps and the protocol tunneling for video and data management.

Achieving 40Gbps Transmission Rate

We tested the transmission rate by connecting the ORICO M2V01-C4 USB4 NVMe SSD and 2021 MacBook Pro to the Goodway DBD1130 USB4 Dock Pro with the BKSTEC USB4 cable. The results show that the read/write speeds at about 21Gbps (2600MB/s).

Protocol Tunneling to Send Packets of Data Simultaneously

We paired an 8K monitor (with resolution at 4K60Hz) with the 2020Apple Macbook Pro 13.3”(Inteli5),and at the same time connected the ORICO M2V01-C4 USB4 NVMe SSD all through the Goodway DBD1130 USB4 Dock Pro. The speed test shows the read/write for about 21Gbps (2600MB/s) and 18Gbps (2300MB/s). The write data of transmission is less, due to the managed and shared bandwidth of the video.
